Windsurf Bay Park

During the holidays, Windsurf Bay Park has been overcrowded. It is located on the west shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, and is 42 acres in size. The park has a sand volleyball court, a half-court basketball court, picnic tables and a small playground. It also has a barbecue grill and two portable plastic outhouses. There is no boat ramp at Windsurf Bay Park. The park is open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Explore the park at 5556 Locust Grove Rd, Garland, TX 75043.

The park is free to use. Windsurfing has long been a popular sport in North Texas, and the Dallas Surf Soccer Club is one of the best competitive soccer clubs in the region. Mariner Sails also stocks more Hobie Cat equipment than anyone in North Texas.

Windsurf Bay Park has had its share of issues in the past. During the Fourth of July weekend last year, the park was closed due to safety concerns. According to City of Garland officials, the park is not designed to hold 8,000 visitors at one time. A number of people were turned away when the park reached its capacity. It was also said that too many picnickers were crowding the park. This caused problems for police and emergency vehicles, and caused a deterioration in public safety. Get more information.

Last year, the park was closed for Independence Day because the city of Garland was not able to provide enough police protection. However, city staff has requested that the park be reopened to ensure public safety. The city has not decided if it will reopen the park or whether it will charge a fee. Several council members have questioned the decision, including District 3 Council Member B.J. Williams.

While the city has not decided if Windsurf Bay Park will reopen, city staff has been studying the situation and has requested guidance on the best way to reopen the park. Some of the options being considered include charging a fee to enter the park, restricting access, and closing the park on certain holidays. In addition, officials plan to enforce a capacity limit when it is necessary.
