Copeville

Copeville is a small community located on the eastern shore of Lavon Lake in Collin County, Texas. The population of this city is just under 2,000. Copeville was named after Miles Cope, who organized the community in the 1850s. The town is served by the Community Independent School District. The town was then developed around the railroad. In 1887, the town was renamed Wylie after Lt. Colonel William D. Wylie, who was a Civil War veteran and right-of-way agent for the railroad.

The Democrat-Gazette is published in Copeville. There are a number of notable events taking place in the city. Local blacksmith W. T. Craft has been in Copeville for eight years. He has a subscription to the newspaper. Another local business woman, Mrs. N. C. Craft, operates a boarding house there and has been a subscriber for years.

Wineries in Copeville include San Martino Winery and Vineyard, a small family-owned winery. The wines produced here are handcrafted and have a traditional “soul” and a distinct Texas style.
